Introduction:
Many people use hydrogen peroxide for cleaning or as a first aid solution, but there’s significant confusion about the difference between regular drugstore hydrogen peroxide and food grade hydrogen peroxide like our 34.5% solution at PureOxy Life. Today, we’re clearing up the most common misconceptions.
Myth #1: “All hydrogen peroxide is the same.”
FACT:
Food grade hydrogen peroxide (like our 34.5% solution) is significantly different from the brown bottle variety found in drugstores. While both contain H₂O₂, food grade hydrogen peroxide:
- Contains no stabilizers or additives
- Is produced under stricter quality controls
- Has a higher concentration (our 34.5% vs. drugstore 3%)
- Requires proper dilution before use (use our calculator at here)
The brown bottle hydrogen peroxide from drugstores typically contains stabilizers like acetanilide, phenol, sodium stannate, and tetrasodium phosphate, which aren’t intended for applications where purity matters.
